This song is from Gran Turismo (1998) by The Cardigans, a Swedish rock band I adore. I feel an affinity for them because they're the same age as me. Carnival (1995), put out by a company called CM, is very well known in this country. On the other side, Love Fool (1996) was a hit worldwide and was featured in the 1996 hit film Romeo and Juliet, starring Leonardo DiCaprio. They're progressing nicely with all of their albums while putting out their music. Their history is found in their greatest hits album, Best of (2008).
敬愛するスウェーデンのバンド、「ザ・カーディガンズ」のアルバム「グラン・トゥーリスモ (1998)」から。メンバーのほとんどが同い年で親近感がわきます。CMなどでよく使われていた「Carnival」で有名です。海外では「ラブ・フール (1996)」がレオナルド・デカプリオ主演の映画「ロミオ+ジュリエット(1996)」で使われ、こちらの方が超有名なようです。彼らはアルバムごとに自身の音楽を模索しちゃんと進化を遂げてきていることは、ベストアルバム(2008)で触れられます。

The song "Love Foolosophy" is from Jamiroquai's fifth studio album, A Funk Odyssey (2001). Jamiroquai is a British funk and acid-jazz band that's sold more than 40 million albums worldwide and that won a Grammy Award in 1998. One of their songs, "Virtual Insanity" (1996), is best known for its music video, in which Jay Kay dances and performs the song in a bright white room with a grey floor. The video was used in a major TV commercial in this country. I remember that when I first heard this album I felt that their musical style had become funkier.

"Fast as You Can" is from Fiona Apple's second album, When the Pawn.... (1999). When it was released it set the world record for the longest album title. This year it reached the top 20 on the US Billboard. The song's background is the relationship between Apple and her old boyfriend, Paul Thomas Anderson, the American film director who directed Boogie Nights (1997) and Magnolia (1999).
ギネス・ワールド・レコーズで「世界一最も長い題名のアルバム」として認定されていたフィオナ・アップルの「戦場に赴く歩兵は/ 王様のように考える... ※長いので省略)」からの選曲になります。この年のビルボードのチャートでもランクイン。当時の恋人であり、映画「マグノリア(1999)」の監督であるポール・トーマス・アンダーソンとの関係がモチーフにされています。

"Love of My Life" is from the fourth album, A Night at the Opera (1975), of the British rock band Queen. Freddie Mercury was the lead vocalist and songwriter, and is best known as the writer of "We Will Rock You (1977)" and "We Are the Champions (1977)." This album included their most successful single in the UK, "Bohemian Rhapsody." Around 20 years ago this song was on "Concerts (1996)," which was Salt & Sugar's first live album and included Chikuzen Sato (Sing Like Talking) as the singer and Satoru Shionoya on piano. I covered all this album's songs at that time.
「We Will Rock You (1977)」や「伝説のチャンピオン」などで超有名な故フレディ・マーキュリーのいた英のバンド、クイーンの4枚目になる「オペラ座の夜(1976)」からの選曲です。このアルバムにはこれまた超有名曲「ボヘミアン・ラプソディー」も収録されています。前にSing Like Talking の佐藤竹善さんとピアニストの塩谷哲さんのユニットSalt & Sugar の1996 年の最初のライブアルバムに収録されていて、その当時そのアルバムのすべて曲カバーしました。
